Course Review: Basic Photography Course by Photography Club of India

During the COVID 19 lockdown, I had the chance to take the Basic Photography Course offered by the Photography Club of India (PCOI).

The Course was initially priced at INR 500.00, but due to COVID-19, PCOI decided to offer the course for free.

Luckily I made the decision to join the course, it offered 10 times the value.

“No one knows everything… You just learn them all..slowly”

I believed that the best results could only be obtained in Manual mode. I was wrong.

I witnessed during this workshop that Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority modes can equally deliver outstanding results as well.

I learnt more about light which forms the soul of photography and

how the conscious selection of Metering modes can give dramatic results thus reducing dependence on Lightroom & Photoshop for color correction.

The above are only a few of the many new learning I made recently in this workshop.

Their Basic Photography Course covered a wide array of Topics such as:

  • Camera Basics
  • Holding of a Camera
  • Exposure Triangle and its Elements- Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO
  • Shooting Modes: Manual, Shutter Priority and Aperture Priority
  • Light Metering
  • Metering Modes
  • Depth of Field and
  • Composition Rules

The course was mentored by John M. Anthony who is a retired Military Personnel and an avid Wildlife Photographer settled in Kochi, Kerela.

After this workshop all I can say about John is- not only is he an outstanding mentor but a Gem of a person too.

Course Highlights

  • Interactive LIVE online session over 2 days
  • One to One Doubt clearing
  • Practical Assignments
  • Picture Analysis and Feedback
  • Certificate of Participation
  • Dedicated whats app group for questions and doubt clearing.

While registering for the course, one may think that the interaction & discussion would end soon after receiving a Certificate of Participation.

Even I thought the same.

Surprisingly the learning is still ON after 3 weeks.

Even today almost after 3 weeks, assignments are rolled out to the participants to ensure that they keep implementing what they learnt and get their doubts addressed.

Soon after registration the participants are added to a whats app group consisting of participants for that particular batch only.

Each photograph submitted by the participant is closely analysed by the mentor himself in the open group itself accompanied with detailed feedback.

Till so far over 600 images have been shared by the participants and reviewed by John himself in the group.

The participants not only learn by clicking themselves but also by going through the feedback given by the mentor on the photographs clicked by their batch mates.

I highly recommend this wonderful course to anyone and everyone who wants to learn photography.

I wish I knew about this earlier.

You can always earn back money but you cannot earn back time

I am sharing this course with you is because I find it to be unique and extremely useful.
